Polgreen Lakes Fish Farm is set in a 40 acre site and is made up of 12 beautifully landscaped rearing lakes and ponds totalling 11 acres of water.
We grow our prized stocks in a non-intensive, highly ethical and natural system. We are as close to the aquatic equivalent of a 'free-range' farm as is possible and our well-managed lakes have become home to some of the most wonderful diversity of wildlife found anywhere in the UK. Our lakes are individully fed from natural springs sited on the farm supplying the perfect conditions for optimum, healthy growth. The constant through-flow of water is cleansed on exit of the site via a huge reed bed before discharging into the sea on our local award winning beach.
The Fish Farm is situated under a mile away from the Atlantic Ocean on the stunning North Coast of Cornwall in the Lanherne and Menahyl river valley, an area of outstanding natural beauty with a wealth of wildlife from otters and mink to gulls, cormorants, herons and kingfishers. It is our job to ensure that our fish stocks can continue to prosper in this environment whilst not impacting on the local environment. Predator and disease prevention are our focus so all our lakes are stock fenced and most top-lined to protect our fish from threat and damage.
We are a KHV, SVC and other terminal disease free Fish Farm and have a very close working relationship with both the Defra department of Cefas and the Environment Agency. Strict aquatic animal health regulations and twice yearly Cefas farm inspections ensure that we are up to date with all statuary requirements. Our Biosecurity Action Plan is central to the farm's success and has been developed in consultation with Cefas and the Fish Health Inspectorate to ensure that we operate the farm in the best way possible.
We are very lucky to be able to farm in such surroundings, we love it. If you would like to organise a site visit to see us then please don't hesitate to get in touch. Please note that we only accept visitors by prior arrangement due to our strict biosecurity process.
N.B. As an established and landscaped fish farm we have cultivated many water and marginal plants on site. From beautiful yellow flag iris and norfolk reed to bulrush reed mace and subsurface oxygenators. If you are developing or creating a pond or lake these plants should be an essential part of your design and execution. We supply these plants and recommend getting in touch to discuss your requirements.
