Every year we produce thousands of premium quality King Carp, Green Tench and Roach for sale, ranging in age and size from 4oz to 20+lbs. Our coarse fish are extremely sought-after and have been stocked in stillwaters and canals throughout the UK including many private and public waterways and a large number of the country's top commercial fisheries.
Our Carp are vibrant, long, high-shouldered British fish bred to a unique mix of commons, leathers and our renowned fully-scaled, linear, zip-linear and large-plated mirrors, produced by crossing the established strains of Leneys and Dinkensbhuls. The Leney strain has a strong heritage as the orginal recreation English Carp, it is known for it's stunning scaling, beautiful deep colouring and elegant long line whereas the original Continental European Dinks are generally shorter, broad and deep with few scales and a very impressive growth rate. The combination of these two strains creates the ideal fishery stock; hardy and domesticated with an attractive and diverse appearance. In the right environment with good water quality and the appropriate stocking density they have the potential for fast growth, with the possibility of year on year weights doubling in young carp and very significant weight gain in larger fish. Whether you are stocking a pleasure, match, specimen or ornamental water our mixed strain is the ideal choice.
The farm's natural environment and scientific feed programme ensures that our fish grow strong and healthy. The stock are hand fed twice a day throughout the year using a unique specialist high-grade feed. The diet includes very little fishmeal (as we do not believe in using ground up wild marine fish to feed our stocks!) but does contain a high volume of non GM wheat, barley, vegetable oils, vitamins and minerals, and further supplements of essential amino acids utilised by our fish for healthy development. This balanced combination works specifically to promote tissue, scale and muscle growth rather than pure fat weight gain which is unsustainable and unhealthy.
Our fish are free of KHV, SVC and other terminal fish diseases. As part of their remit Cefas carry out regular site inspections and stock tests. We also take further fish samples to the National Fish Health Inspectorate's laboratory at Weymouth for other viral disease tests that are not required by law but we feel add further assurances of quality to our customers. Additionally our stock is independantly health checked every six months for bacteria and parasite loading to comply with Section 30 Consent from the EA. These tests and checks combined with our strict biosecurity measures are just some of the precautions we take to ensure that Polgreen Lakes remains a trusted producer and supplier of premium stock fish.
